KoNES - The Korean Neuroendovascular Society

Dear colleagues

The Korean Neuroendovascular Society (KoNES, initially called the Korean Society of Intravascular Neurosurgery (KSIN)) was founded in December 1995 by nine members. It changed its name to the Society of Korean Endovascular Neurosurgeons (SKEN) in July 2012 and to its current name of the Korean Neuroendovascular Society (KoNES) in December 2019. Today, KoNES is a multidisciplinary society that encompasses basic research and endovascular treatment of the brain and the spinal vascular diseases. We have more than 400 members from different origin such as neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neurology, cardiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and radiation oncology, among others.

Since its founding, KoNES has held many regular scientific meetings and workshops to enhance the academic ability and technical skills of the participants and to encourage knowledge-sharing. This includes a basic endovascular course, the arterial recanalization in cerebral stroke (ARCS), monthly forums, annual summer conference on endovascular neurointerventional therapy (ASCENT), advanced neuroendovasular technique education (ANTE), annual joint cerebrovascular and endovascular update conference, regional academic conferences, and the KoNES annual meeting.

KoNES also publishes the inaugural issue of the Journal of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery (JCEN), an English-language quarterly journal. Full or limited viewing of the articles in this journal is abstracted in PubMed, KoreaMed, KOMCI, Google scholar and KCI.

KoNES is playing a central role in the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases by promoting academic achievements in neuro-endovascular therapy, research and training, and fostering knowledge-sharing and friendship among members. It also has organic relationships with other divisional associations.

As part of its new project, our society is planning to make nationwide an online registry on cerebral aneurysm and mechanical thrombectomy to know the current status of endovascular treatment in Korea. We will accumulate domestic patient treatment data, which can be used to influence Korean medical policy in the neuroendovascular field. We will continue to strive to become a leading multidisciplinary neuroendovascular society in Korea.

We have an exciting journey ahead of us, and the driving force of the KoNES’s development is its members. We look forward to your interest and active participation in KoNES.

Thank you.
President, Korean Neuroendovascular Society (KoNES),
Soon Chan Kwon
